Two busloads of high school students from Trenton and Gibraltar (Michigan) joined elected officials and local residents to celebrate the completion of stream daylighting and wetland restoration work at the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge.
The stream daylighting and wetland restoration work is part of a project that has cleaned up a brownfield site, restored wetlands, treated storm water, and provided for environmental education, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano said.
The brownfield site had been a Chrysler paint factory, but it now is a home for habitat restoration in the only international wildlife refuge in the United States, he said.
