VIDEO: Restoring the natural pools & habitats of the over-engineered Mississippi River

As powerful as the 2300-mile Mississippi River of North America is, we’ve have learned to tame it with locks and dams.

In the 80 years since the dams were constructed, the side effects have been detrimental to the ecosystem of the river.

In order to stave off ecological disaster, multiple environmental agencies banded together to restore important parts of the river to its natural habitat.

This 7-minute video from Iowa Public Radio shows one such effort underway today.
