In an effort to bring in more money for Garden City and local schools, the town is expanding a rebate program that encourages homeowners and businesses to make improvements.
It’s called the neighborhood revitalization program.
When a property owner makes improvements their property value goes up. The rebate program gives some of that increase back but it’s still generating more taxes than before, which would be used by the city, garden city public schools and garden city community college.
The city believes that homeowners will take advantage of the rebates, increasing the value of their homes, adding more tax revenue to the schools and improving the city overall.
