The Hester Marsh of Elkhorn Slough in California has been degraded by decades of diking and draining, and threatened by rising sea levels.
It’s now being lifted out of the muck, to restore natural habitat and preserve its climate change fighting abilities.
Scientists are also monitoring its blue carbon potential, and the research could help guide marsh restoration efforts around the world.
