Audubon seeks a Managing Director to build on Audubon’s Seabird Restoration Program’s (SRP) rich history and success and expand its contributions to conservation in Maine, the Atlantic Flyway and worldwide.
This is a high-profile position for a dynamic conservation professional or environmental entrepreneur with opportunity for advancement. With an annual budget of $1.4 million and a full time staff of ten, Audubon’s SRP develops innovative methodology to restore and protect seabirds and engages the public through a broad range of education and engagement activities to encourage advocacy and conservation of oceans and seabirds.
SRP protects 13 Maine seabird nesting sanctuaries, including seven seasonal field stations that train the next generation of seabird conservation biologists from the U.S. and other countries. The islands are home to most of Maine’s rare and endangered seabirds and are models for the possibilities of seabird restoration.
To build a caring and informed public that will advance the protection of seabirds and marine habitats, SRP also operates the Hog Island Audubon Camp, Project Puffin Visitor Center, live-streaming seabird cams, boat tours, classroom outreach, and other public engagement programs. With its 40-year-plus history of innovative accomplishments, SRP has become an internationally recognized leader in seabird conservation.
The successful candidate will have the knowledge, passion and leadership skills to articulate, develop, and implement Audubon’s seabird conservation goals and strategies, while working closely with SRP’s Seabird Advisory Council and Audubon’s Chief Scientist. The Managing Director will work closely with and report to the Executive Director of the Audubon Seabird Restoration Program.
