The state of Kansas has given preliminary approval for a key mechanism to help fund an estimated $122 million in improvements for a major overhaul of Salina’s downtown.
Upon being given that information, commissioners approved moving forward with both STAR and Tax Increment Financing districts to help pay for the improvements.
It’s estimated the project will create 839 direct and indirect jobs with a payroll of $40 million and an economic effect of $134 million. A field house, one of a number of buildings planned for downtown, is estimated to draw over 90,000 visitors annually, many of whom will come from outside the state.
