15-acre residential redevelopment of Perth waterfront seeks highest green rating

The company that was awarded the highest sustainability rating possible twice this year by the Green Building Council Australia (GBCA) for its Sydney projects has equally high ‘green’ ambitions for its Waterbank river-beach community under construction in East Perth.

GBCA Chief Executive Officer Romilly Madew described Lendlease as a world leader in the design and delivery of sustainable communities for its Darling Harbour and Barangaroo inner-Sydney mixed-use communities.

The company’s Perth Waterbank project, which is being delivered in partnership with the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority, similarly will have more than 1000 apartments and townhouses, as well as cafes and bars across six hectares of reclaimed riverbank at the eastern gateway to Perth’s CBD by 2022.

According to Ms Madew, Waterbank will become Western Australia’s greenest urban precinct.

“Waterbank was one of the first projects in Australia to register and be assessed for sustainability using GBCA’s Green Star – Communities rating tool that broadens sustainability to include socially healthy and liveable communities,” she said.
