Texas Main Street revitalization generates $3 billion/30,000 jobs & adds 2 new cities

Corpus Christi and Brownsville are now part of the Texas Main Street Program, and leaders hope that boost tourism in their downtown areas.

Cecilia Abbott, the First Lady of Texas, visited Corpus Christi Friday morning and joined Mayor Nelda Martinez and other city leaders for a dedication ceremony.

The historical commission said the program has helped areas around the state generate more than $3 billion and 30,000 jobs.

The mission of the Texas Main Street Program is to provide technical expertise, education, resources and support to designated Main Street communities.

Utilizing individual and collective skills, it guides designated programs in effectively preserving and revitalizing their historic downtowns and commercial neighborhood districts in accord with the National Main Street Four Point Approach of organization, design, economic vitality, and promotion.
