Note from Storm: This conference is also called SER2015, because it is the global congress of the Society for Ecological Restoration (I was one of SER’s earliest members). I keynoted SER2008 when it took place on September 8-12, 2008 in beautiful Ghent, Belgium.
The very first Restoration Economy talk I ever gave was at the “Understanding and Restoring Ecosystems” conference August 4-9, 2002 in Tucson, Arizona, which was a joint conference of SER and the Ecological Society of America. [The second was at an Urban Land Institute event in Pasadena, California in 2002.]
I count SER’s “Restoration Across Borders” conference on October 4-6, 2001 in Niagara Falls, Ontario as a turning point in my life: I made many improvements to my first book, The Restoration Economy, as a result of the insights I gained at that event. That book was published 13 months later. I say all this by way of encouraging you to attend this event, and to join the Society for Ecological Restoration; a small but crucially-important professional organization based in Washington, DC.
From the event website: The 6th World Conference on Ecological Restoration will take place in Manchester, England from August 23 – 27, 2015. The theme of this event is “Towards resilient ecosystems: restoring the urban, the rural and the wild.” This
SER 2015 in Manchester aims to be the major restoration event of the year. Building on recent successful world congresses and regional meetings such as SER Europe 2013 in Finland, we hope to attract a large number of academics and practitioners who will share good practice and network successfully in one of the homes of the industrial revolution.
The title: “Towards resilient ecosystems: restoring the urban, the rural and the wild” should provide something for everyone, whether working in highly urbanised, ex-agricultural, or natural wild environments. We mean this conference to be as inclusive as possible and are keen to showcase not only the important scientific developments, issues and solutions, but also the cultural, educational and artistic aspects of restoration ecology. We are hosting a wide range of different types of events during the conference period, with pre-conference training workshops, conference symposia posters, workshops, and oral presentations, as well as half day field trips to see landscapes at first hand.
