$720,000 restoration of historic Mayslake Hall nears completion in Oak Brook, IL

Changing the old to new is how the restoration process at Mayslake Hall in Oak Brook, Illinois is making a nearly 100-year-old building looking like it did in its original state.

The $720,000 project is being completed by Renaissance Restoration Inc., of Galena. The company was contracted by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, which owns and operates Mayslake Peabody Estate.

Fowers said Mayslake attracts about 150,000 visitors each year, who come for tours, classes, and both theatrical and musical performances.

Work began in July at Mayslake Peabody Estate and is scheduled to continue through October or early November to restore the rear courtyard and breakfast porch areas.

The history of Mayslake Peabody Estate goes back to 1919, when Francis Stuyvesant Peabody commissioned renowned Chicago architect Benjamin H. Marshall to design the Tudor Revival-style mansion known now as Mayslake Hall, according to the Forest Preserve District.
