Alabama community to transform dead country club into public park & housing

Residents of Vestavia Hills, Alabama voiced their concerns over potential traffic problems arising from the proposed redevelopment of the defunct Altadena Valley Country Club into a residential community and public park.

The city and Keith Development Company are working in a public-private partnership to redevelop the former country club, which closed at the end of May.

In the deal, the city would receive about 60 acres of the 122-acre property.

The plans also call for the property, which isn’t currently in Vestavia Hills, to be annexed.

Altadena Valley closed at the end of May and neighbors have voiced concerns about the upkeep of the property. Weeds have grown up along the course and the pool water has turned green.
