Alabama town to restore Main Street revitalization program w/ full-time leader

Merchants and city leaders of Tuscumbia, Alabama expressed the desire on November 3, 2015 to reinstate a downtown Main Street program, but with a full-time director.

That seemed to be the major sentiment delivered during a meeting with Shoals Chamber of Commerce officials. The gathering was part of a series of meetings between chamber officials and residents of local cities.

May Woodie Christopher, president of the volunteer Tuscumbia Retail Development organization, said her group has been told it would cost about $75,000 to get a Main Street program going again.

Tuscumbia had a Main Street program years ago during the initial years of the Main Street movement, but never had a full-time employee over it.

We’d love to have a Main Street program back,Tuscumbia Downtown Redevelopment Authority member Sherry Campbell said. She said it would be important the program include a full-time director.
