The “Operation Downtown” proposal by the administration of Anderson, Indiana Mayor Kevin Smith is being viewed as good for the city by some members of the Anderson Rotary Club.
Smith on Tuesday outlined the 17 projects in “Operation Downtown” that could be completed over the next decade at an estimated total cost of $40 million to $50 million.
The proposal includes converting downtown streets for two-way traffic, a downtown amphitheater, reuse of Athletic Park and a more pedestrian-friendly core business district.
Beth Erskine, executive director of the Leadership Academy of Madison County, said that connecting the different areas of the city and making it easier to travel was something she particularly liked about the plan.
Smith said communities across Indiana and the country are working to make the downtown area a viable place for young people to live.
