The Canadian Catastrophe Conference will take place on January 31-February 2, 2018 in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada.
There is no question that the frequency and severity of catastrophic events in Canada are on the rise. It is now increasingly common for Canadian annual insured losses from catastrophes to exceed CAN $1 billion. Canadian insured losses from catastrophic events in 2017 were CAN $1.33 billion, according to Catastrophe Indices and Quantification Inc. (CatIQ).
With hurricanes heavily impacting the US and the Caribbean, the worst wildfire season on record for both California and British Columbia, as well as severe flooding in parts of Eastern Canada, 2017 has been a year of extreme weather for Canada and its neighbors.
These catastrophic events, which directly impact the public, require industry, academia and government to work together before, during and afterwards. Catastrophe Indices and Quantification Inc. (CatIQ) organizes a conference to foster such collaboration in Canada.
CatIQ’s Canadian Catastrophe Conference 2018, or C4 2018, is a content-driven forum for:
- Insurance/Reinsurance Professionals;
- All Levels of Government;
- Academia/Researchers;
- Risk Managers;
- Other sectors/organizations dealing with resilience to catastrophes.
The keynote will be provided by Maryam Golnaraghi, Director, Extreme Events & Climate Risk at the Geneva Association.

The second annual conference took place in February 2017 and brought together over 230
delegates from across Canada.
