Chattanooga’s first tall building repurposed as downtown housing

The First Tennessee Bank building was Chattanooga, Tennessee‘s tallest for decades.

Now the bank is selling their 16 story offices to a Memphis development group, which will convert it into mixed-use commercial and residential space.

Officials with the River City Company say converting older office space into housing is an idea whose time has come in Chattanooga.

From both the City Center Plan and the market study, we knew people wanted more housing options downtown,” states Kim White, River City Company President and CEO.
