China’s new Mountain Forest Hotel is designed to restore a degraded landscape

Located in the 10 thousand peaks area, the Mountain Forest Hotel, designed by Milan-based architecture studio Stefano Boeri Architetti is inside a 400-acre master plan.

The concept of the mountain hotel was inspired by “the unique natural scenery of the 10 thousands peaks valley, its original topography and ecosystem.

The design aims to restore the landscape, by reconstructing a former existing hill that was flatten years ago, in this way emulating the past and present hills.

It is said that the hotel will be so “green” that it will literally improve the air around the building.

On top of cooling in the shadows of the trees, growing on the balconies, guests of the new hotel will be able to enjoy the gym, relax in a lounge or a VIP area, have a drink at the bar, eat in a stylish restaurant and more.

It’s located in the Wanfeng Valley, in Guizhou, China. The New York Times named China’s Guizhou region on its list of “52 Places to Go in 2016,” predicting an increase in tourist traffic there.

The forested area was largely inaccessible until 2014, when the government opened a $20 billion high-speed railway that cut the travel time from the nearest major city from 20 hours down to four. Tour activities and new hotels are sprouting up throughout the area, but certainly none are as likely to improve the local environment as much as the Mountain Hotel.

The mountain project has 250 rooms designed for the Hong Kong-based Cachet Hotel Group. The interior design will be a collaboration with the local artist Simon Ma.

The new hotel includes services such as gym, lounge, vip area, bar, restaurant and conference room. The concept comes from the unique natural scenery of the 10 thousands peaks valley, its original topography and ecosystem.

The firm says that symbiosis is the goal. Sustainability not only depends on energy conservation, but on a wider biodiversity. The symbiosis between man, architecture and nature is the real sustainability. Following the firm’s first prototype in Milan, then in Lausanne, the Vertical Forest is continuously consolidating as a model for sustainable urbanization.
