Citizens question cost of Boise’s downtown revitalization streetscaping

The cost of Boise, Idaho‘s downtown renewal project taking place on the intersection of 15th and Main streets has been questioned by residents…is it worth it?

Designers say it should cost around $900,000 of taxpayer money for new trees, benches, and a sidewalk, but some feel too much cash is being spent.

The construction on 15th Street and Main Street is part of the streetscape renewal program by Capital City Development Corp., a project that promises to bring new trees, benches, and lighting to downtown sidewalks.

There has not been a lot of redevelopment and reinvigoration in this area for quite some time,” said Karl Woods, CCDC project manager. “And part of what we are trying to do is improve economic vitality and development in downtown Boise.
