Design Contest: Redevelopment of Shanghai sports complex and riverfront park

Shanghai, China‘s top planning body is seeking urban design ideas as authorities look to beautify downtown landmarks.

On July 9, 2016, the Shanghai Planning, Land and Resources Administration launched a global campaign entitled “2016 Shanghai Urban Design Challenge”, inviting both professional designers and amateurs to redevelop Xujiahui and Hengshan-Fuxing roads in Xuhui District, the banks of Suzhou Creek, and the Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park in Pudong New Area.

The administration will publish basic information related to the area like geology, land usage, constructions, traffic information and population.

The Shanghai Stadium and Shanghai Gymnasium along with nearby natatorium and other sports facilities will be redeveloped into Xujiahui Sports Park.

The Hengshan-Fuxing Road Historic Reservation Area project will have a pedestrian passage along the city’s historic villas and former residence of celebrities.

The Suzhou Creek project will revamp the riverside areas and establish a sightseeing path along the creek.
