Designing Cities for Rainy Days is a two-hour forum that will take place on September 19, 2016 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place, Manhattan, New York City.
Around the world, cities are finding innovative solutions to manage water resources to be resilient to climate change and enhance community livability. City-to-city networks can provide forums to exchange information about different approaches to similar challenges and to learn from each other’s successes and failures.
This session will highlight cities that are rethinking design and urban planning to live with water, including New York City’s resiliency approach in OneNYC: The Plan for a Strong and Just City, Rotterdam’s Climate Initiative and its iconic Water Square, the Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan, and Copenhagen’s Cloudburst Management Plan. It will also highlight the cooperation between New York City and the City of Copenhagen to share climate solutions and the initial results of a conceptual pilot study for New York based on Copenhagen’s approach to assessing risks and developing solutions to extreme rain events.
