On September 28, 2020 in Carson City, Nevada, the Nevada Excellence in Mine Reclamation Awards for 2020 were
announced during a virtual presentation ceremony.
Two awards were presented this year:
- KGHM Robinson Mine received an award for Legacy Waste Rock Reclamation for their work at the Lane City Waste Rock Facility in White Pine County and
- Hudbay Minerals/Mason Resources (US) Inc. received an award for Concurrent Exploration Reclamation for their work at the Mason Exploration Project in Lyon County.
The goal of the annual State Reclamation Awards is to encourage operators and explorers to submit reclamation projects which raise industry standards, increase public awareness of the positive aspects of mining, and encourage innovation in reclamation techniques.
“This year’s award winners are outstanding examples of projects attaining these goals,” said Mike Visher, Administrator for the Nevada Division of Minerals.
“In showcasing their work, we hope to draw attention to the continued efforts by Nevada’s mining industry to lead the Nation in successful reclamation, community partnerships and environmental protection practices,” he added.
This is the 29th year of the Nevada Excellence in Mine Reclamation Awards.
In order to receive an award, the Committee must unanimously vote that a submission or nomination:
- exhibits excellent mitigation of the environmental impacts of mineral industry activity; and
- demonstrates work efforts which go above and beyond what is mandated, and represents an exemplary narrative to be shared with others in the industry, as well as with the general public.
The Awards Committee consists of representatives from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, the Nevada Department of Wildlife, the Bureau of Land Management, the United States Forest Service and the Nevada Division of Minerals.
