Georgia celebrates $75 million, 10-year revitalization of historic Jekyll Island

On November 16, 2015, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, on Jekyll Island, rededicated the island to the people of Georgia.

He said the state park is in great shape following a decade-long revitalization project.

This truly is a little patch of heaven,” Deal told the crowd of more than 500 people in attendance at the ceremony held under a large tent on the riverfront lawn in the island’s historic district.

We have come a long way,” Deal said. “The island has a new look but maintains its original charm. Thanks to public and private revitalization efforts and the careful stewardship of the island’s natural resources, this is a wonderful place that all Georgians can enjoy and share now and in the future.

The state has $75 million invested in Jekyll’s new look.
