Managing rangeland, forest and riparian ecosystems often requires tools and methods to restore ecological function and improve ecosystem health and condition. Many ecosystems experience disturbances including wild fire, weed invasion, cultivation and overgrazing.
A Certificate in Restoration Ecology at the University of Idaho provides students with a strong understanding of soil and plant ecology and an overview of tools to manage and restore ecosystems. The certificate requires a total of 16 credits, which are available online.
With graduate committee approval, graduate students may include the certificate courses as part of their study plan. Non-degree students can enhance their knowledge in this area without seeking a graduate degree and simultaneously build a strong foundation for a master’s degree at a future date.
