In the Washington, DC area, the Grey to Green: D.C. Metro Region Conference on October 29-30, 2019 will shine a spotlight on the best practices in policy, design, financing, research and maintenance from across the region and beyond. It will be held at the Tommy Douglas Conference Center in Silver Spring, Maryland.
By coming together to network and share information, Grey to Green will help stimulate more rapid progress in the utilization of green infrastructure to help restore the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed.
“The DC Metro Area has long been a leader in the application of green infrastructure and we are delighted to be hosting an event to highlight accomplishments and explore future options for greater implementation of these technologies, particularly in light of the crazy weather that is occurring there,” said Steven W. Peck, GRP, Honorary ASLA, Founder and President, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities. “Green infrastructure, if widely implemented, can significantly help future-proof our communities and protect Chesapeake Bay,” he added.
Chesapeake Bay has provided an important focal point for many of the innovative policies and programs that have been implemented to accelerate the adoption of green infrastructure in the DC Metro Region.
The Chesapeake Bay Watershed, home to more than 18 million people, is distinctly susceptible to the impacts of climate change; particularly to increasing flooding and more intense rainstorms. Although much as been accomplished, few localities have considered how to site and utilize green infrastructure practices more strategically for stormwater management in a changing climate.
Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) is the North American Industry Association for the green roof and wall industry which it is building through advocacy and training.
The Green Infrastructure Foundation is the charitable arm of GRHC and partners with communities to shape healthy, resilient and sustainable places using green infrastructure.
