Czech architects Petr Kolář and Aleš Lapka of ADR have beautifully restored a historic distillery in the Southern Bohemia village of Javornice.
At the site of the original farmhouse from the late 19th century, its owners could create a farm and new small fruit distillery with all the necessary facilities.
Another reconstructed building on the property is a former pub with a dance hall, plus stables and a barn. The buildings have now been repurposed with a shop, fruit store, refrigerated fermentation plant, a customs warehouse basement, wood house, and garage.
There are also accommodations for family members and guests. The site boasts an extensive orchard and garden, thanks to the previous Javorník distillery operations.
The architects worked to preserve most of the original architectural features of the buildings. Where that was no longer possible, they replaced them with similar characteristic details from other buildings in South Bohemia. For new buildings, they chose new materials, contemporary but respectful of the original buildings.
