Historic Lansing school to be redeveloped into affordable and senior housing

The former Michigan School for the Blind campus is the focus of a redevelopment effort that’s led by the city and Indianapolis-based TWG Development LLC.

The $24.4 million project, by TWG Development, will include 72 units of family housing and 60 units of senior housing.

Rent for the units is expected to range from about $550 for a one-bedroom to $700 for a three-bedroom, said Joe Whitsett, CEO of TWG.

The Abigail Building, built in 1916, was often called “Old Main” and was considered the focal point of the school’s 40-acre campus.
