The West Dunbartonshire Council has given the go-ahead for plans for a residential-led mixed-use redevelopment of former John Brown Shipyard at Queens Quay, Cart Street in Clydebank on the edge of Glasgow, Scotland. Planners concluded there was “strong policy support for the regeneration of the site“.
The transformation of the John Brown yard into a housing, retail and leisure space will breathe new life into the West Dunbartonshire town, locals officials said.
The multimillion-pound proposal is expected to take a decade to complete.
John Brown’s shipyard built some of the world’s most renowned liners including the QE2, which launched in 1967.
The report added that the scheme “embodies a design-led approach which relates to the local context and establishes the basic street layout for the site, which would achieve the key objective of maximising physical and visual connectivity between the town centre and the River Clyde. Overall, it is considered that the proposals would provide for a high quality of urban design befitting this important regeneration site.”
