Reopening the economy safely is at the top of mind for all economic developers. The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) is continuing its efforts to offer resources to address the COVID-19 pandemic.
On May 7, 2020, IEDC added a new section of their Restore Your Economy website, titled “Reopen Your Economy”
IEDC says that it “recognizes that reopening the economy responsibly will depend on businesses, and their customers, heeding the guidance of public health officials. Yet, this guidance will manifest differently across industries and communities.”
Resources on this newly launched page include IEDC research insight into a wide spectrum of industry reopening practices, and a collection of handbooks and guidelines from state and municipal governments, public institutions, and private firms.
The Research and Resources section showcases research from IEDC and peer organizations. It also highlights webinars from their COVID-19 Series related to reopening.
Reopening by Industry features research from IEDC regarding industries from retail to automotive and beyond, and handbooks and guides from industry organizations. The industries included are:
- Manufacturing
- Sports and Entertainment
- Retail
- Airlines and Tourism
- Hospitality and Restaurants
- Personal Services
- Real Estate and Construction
- Automobile
State and Municipal Reopening showcases plans developed by states, with an emphasis on those created with economic development organizations. This will continue to be updated as more resources come online.
RestoreYourEconomy.org is a one-stop resource for news, analyses, strategies and examples of what economic development organizations (EDOs) are doing in response to COVID-19 and emerging challenges. It’s designed and maintained by IEDC, with support from IEDC’s Economic Development Research Partners (EDRP) program and the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), with additional support from Southwest Airlines.
