In Wisconsin, a historic 1892 warehouse is being repurposed and renewed as a 102-room boutique hotel to help revitalize riverfront

On January 27, 2021, Wimmer Communities announced that their Hotel Third Ward, a 102-room boutique hotel set to open in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward neighborhood.

Hotel Third Ward is being designed by a team led by Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA), which will repurpose and renew an 1892 vintage warehouse located on the southwest edge of the Historic Third Ward at the confluence of the Milwaukee and Menomonee Rivers.

Operating as a Marriott Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Wimmer says their Hotel Third Ward will offer unique, boutique accommodations branded together by a passion for captivating design and art, creating a vibrant social scene for guests and neighborhood residents alike.

The premier hotel will be owned by Wimmer Communities and operated by both Wimmer Communities and Crescent Hotels & Resorts.

The luxury boutique hotel will blend old and new architecture through the addition of an elegant, thin tower above the multi-use plaza that provides a connection to the Riverwalk and the Historic Third Ward Wharf.

Supporting the Third Ward’s residential, entertainment and shopping character, Hotel Third Ward is designed as an interactive neighborhood gathering place.

The hotel will offer multiple culinary options, including a Water Street coffee bistro and deli, relaxed riverfront dining, and a dynamic rooftop experience providing breathtaking views of the Milwaukee metropolis.

Hotel Third Ward shall also serve as a major economic generator through job creation, tax revenue, and spending by guests drawn to the area.

The forecast for annual municipal tax revenue, including property taxes, room tax, and BID assessment, is $1.6 million based on current rates. Further, ancillary spending by guests within the neighborhood is projected to be an additional $16 million, annually.
