The Town Council has teed off the first step to convert the vacant Griffith Golf Course into a major redevelopment site.
To that end, the board has signed an agreement with Christopher Burke Engineering to help apply for the first of several permits to gain permission from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to move an existing flood levee further to the north.
The 50-acre golf course, which is now owned by the town, sits on the east side of Cline Avenue just south of the Little Calumet River.
“By moving this levee, the land at the golf course will become suitable for development,” Council President Rick Ryfa, R-3rd, said late Thursday night.
Ryfa said the town must continue to aim high to make needed improvements.
“If we don’t think big and set high objectives, we will never reach our true potential. Average is not an option here.”
