New Britain, Connecticut was one of six municipalities Thursday awarded state grants totaling more than $1 million to generate plans for re-mediating and developing clusters of brownfield sites.
New Britain was granted $200,000 to develop detailed site planning, environmental analyses and identification of a master developer for potential transit-oriented development sites around the East Main Street CTfastrak station.
“We are very excited to be one of the first cities chosen to use this new innovative program,” Mayor Erin Stewart said of the Department of Economic and Community Development Brownfield Area-Wide Revitalization Grant pilot program that was signed into law last summer by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.
“This seed money will help New Britain strategize how to clean up our brownfield sites, figure out what the best use for the neighborhood is going forward and ultimately turn an eyesore into an opportunity.”
