Regeneration of the Lagos, Nigeria‘s architecture and construction practices is now the order of the day, in view of both the rapidly-shrinking building space, and the need to get the best value out of existing buildings and other properties.
The Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) intends to launch a revolution in the city’s redevelopment. The plan, once commenced, will help governments and town planners in urban regeneration.
To set the tone for this, the Lagos NIA has themed its Lagos Architects Forum, LAF 8.0: “An architectural autopoiesis.”
“As architects, our designs shape the society. Autopoiesis is regeneration and we are looking at what to do to recreate ourselves as well as Lagos and the nation at large,” said the Secretary of the Lagos NIA, Mr. Samson Akinyosoye.
The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) was founded on April 1, 1960 as an association of independent professional architects. The idea for the formation of an independent professional architect’s organization in Nigeria was first conceived and motivated by three Nigerian architects while still pursuing their training in England in the early fifties.
