Norfolk, VA offers $230,000 to artists nationwide to help revitalize neighborhood

The city of Norfolk, Virginia is looking for artists to create work that will grab attention to help revitalize the Riverview neighborhood.

The city is requesting designs from artists interested in creating art that showcases Riverview, and shows that it’s fresh, cool and has character.

Residents are hoping artists will create something similar to Archway, so as people head into the area, it will welcome them to the neighborhood.

The city seeks an artist to design and create artwork that will be a gateway for Riverview Village. The work should be a fresh, creative representation that is reflective of the riverfront village’s wonderful historic integrity. The gateway artwork will announce that this is a special cool, hip place to slow down and enjoy.

The artwork needs to be big enough to be viewed by vehicular traffic and must be fabricated in durable, permanent outdoor materials that are safe and easily maintained.

Project funds for this exterior artwork are $230,000.
Deadline for submissions is December 8, 2015.
