Oxford University is leading a £600 million initiative to transform the Osney Mead Industrial Estate and railway station area of Oxford, England into a mixed-use reevelopment featuring offices, research facilities and more than 600 apartments for graduates and academics.
A master plan was released the first week of July, 2016.
The Oxford University plan aims to “provide increased opportunities for employment, homes and supporting uses, and better pedestrian and cycle connections to the City centre and surrounding areas.”
It is also hoped it could transform the estate into a “pleasant waterside space.”
The site is also seen as a key element of a wider plan to revitalize the West End of Oxford, alongside the Oxpens development. Oxpens is one of the most significant development opportunities in the city centre, and has the potential to make a valuable and substantial contribution to the life and economy of Oxford. It is closely interlinked with the neighbouring railway station site and is part of a “City Deal” with central government will be brought forward for development in 2016/17
