Promoting Urban Economic Mobility — Washington, DC — September 14, 2016

The Urban Institute, in collaboration with the Citi Foundation, invites you to a discussion on innovative strategies and practices that promote upward mobility.

We will focus on the need to identify and address barriers that prevent individuals and families from moving up the economic ladder.

We will also explore emerging research and place-conscious practices for cities, neighborhoods, and workplaces.

Sessions will include the following:

  • Making Cities More Inclusive: What does the evidence say are proven local strategies to ensure that prosperity and opportunity is more widely shared?
  • Housing Families in High-Opportunity Communities, and Creating Opportunity in Place: What does the evidence say about policies and programs that make desirable places more affordable as well as putting families in better places to succeed?
  • Changing Nature of Work and Employment: The Implications for Economic Mobility

What does the evidence say about the nature and pace of change in the labor market? And what is the effect on economic mobility?

Join policymakers, researchers, philanthropists, and practitioners from across the country as they tackle the challenge of creating evidence-based pathways to economic mobility.
