Redevelopment will stuff old sausage factory with fresh residents

A historic building on La Crosse, Wisconsin‘s south side will no longer sit empty.

The old Bakalars sausage factory on South Avenue has been under a repair order since 2011 after a tornado damaged the building.

Now the city is working to remove the order opening up the building to other uses.

The owner of the building is looking to sell the property to Metroplains development company out of Saint Paul.

The company plans to redevelop the building into 25 apartments using historic tax credits.
