Resilient Virginia Conference — Richmond, Virginia — August 1–2, 2017

Plan to take part in Virginia’s second statewide conference on resilience! Conference registration is now open for the Resilient Virginia Conference taking place on August 1–2, 2017 in Richmond, Virginia.

This year’s theme, Connecting Communities, Business, and Educators for Resilience Solutions, builds on last year’s inaugural conference goals of broadening the capacity for resiliency planning in the state, and it serves as a forum to highlight the resiliency programs developed under Governor Terry McAuliffe’s administration.

Resilient Virginia is dedicated to bringing national, state and local resources together to accelerate community resiliency in the state. We are pleased to announce the 2017 Resilient Virginia Conference, taking place August 1–2 at the Richmond Convention Center. This year, the Virginia Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) will take a leading role in supporting the conference.

The Commonwealth, and the country, are turning their attention to resiliency planning due to the increasing effects of a changing and less predictable climate, more severe weather events, new health concerns such as Zika and growing national security threats. In the long term, communities must adapt to social and economic disruptions caused by sea level rise, increased flooding, heat waves and other disruptors, while being challenged to find innovative technological and policy solutions.

The 2017 conference will highlight the resiliency programs developed under Governor McAuliffe’s administration, bring examples of resiliency solutions from around the country, as well as bring government, businesses, and educators together to:

  • Explore resiliency opportunities for local governments and institutions;
  • Highlight innovative businesses and technologies;
  • Develop an understanding of the priorities for different regions of the state;
  • Provide training and tools that can be used for resiliency planning.

Plan to attend the 2017 Resilient Virginia Conference to gain insights, to network with organizations that can assist you in advancing your resiliency goals, and to join colleagues in working toward a resilient future!
