In Nova Scotia, Canada, the Alternative Energy Resource Authority (AREA) is an energy services company owned by the towns of Antigonish, Berwick and Mahone Bay.
The towns each operate an electric utility to distribute power safely and cost effectively within their service territory. AREA’s mandate is to leverage clean technology to reduce the costs, and carbon intensity, and improve the security, of the energy that powers these communities and other municipalities in Atlantic Canada.
This Request For Information (RFI) is designed to determine the technical and commercial expertise in the Nova Scotian market that can be applied to AREA’s community solar and battery storage projects. AREA is interested in engaging with qualified firms to explore delivering these projects in several different
manners including, but not limited to: a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), equipment supply, or contracted construction services to a set of design drawings, among others.
Engagement and expertise from qualified manufacturers, project developers, professional services, contractors and other interested parties will be essential to determining the final shape AREA’s community solar and storage projects take and their delivery mechanism. Firm qualifications, interest and information obtained through the RFI process will be used to inform the technical and commercial terms of a Request For Proposal (RFP) that AREA will issue for these projects in early 2020.
