RFP: Buy (for $5000+) and redevelop old schools in Fall River, Massachusetts

The city of Fall River, Massachusetts has put out requests for proposals to sell two of three remaining former school buildings hit the street on July 26, 2016.

This is the second time the City Council Committee on Real Estate has attempted to dispose of the old structures.

The minimum bid for the former Silvia School, at 138 Hartwell St., and Lincoln School, at 439 Pine St., is $5,000 apiece.

Unlike in the past, demolition is an option: no preference for redevelopment is mentioned in either RFP, according to City Administrator Cathy Ann Viveiros.

The issue is we have a significant safety issue at Coughlin,” Viveiros said. “So anyone who is awarded the bid is going to have to demonstrate they capability to either demolish the structure or to restore it.

The deadline for proposals for both schools is August, 17, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the city’s Purchasing Department.

Viveiros said potential bidders will be able to take a walk-through the two the properties on August 3.
