RFP: Phoenix seeks developer to redevelop 100-year-old “Psycho” building

The city of Phoenix, Arizona has issued a new request for proposals for redevelopment of the historic Barrister Place Building downtown.

The city wants to sell the 100-year-old building at Central Avenue and Jefferson Street for at least $2.28 million, according to city documents.

The building was featured in Alfred Hitchcock’s movie “Psycho” in 1960.

The city had awarded a previous Barrister redevelopment RFP to Scottsdale apartment developer P.B. Bell Cos. and Phoenix infill developer Davis Enterprises.

They had agreed to buy the six-story building for $2.28 million but asked the city for an extension on that purchase in June.

Their plans were for new downtown apartments and some ground-level retail.

The city put out a new RFP August 11, 2015. Bids are due September 25, 2015.
