The city of Mmanchester, New Hampshire has issued a request for proposals, looking for someone to redevelop a vacant building—the former Genest’s Bakery—in the South End of town.
In a May 19, 2017 email to city aldermen, Tax Collector Brenda Adams declared “The building is a hazard,”. She noted that it had standing water and mud in the basement, a broken sprinkler system, plus compromised doors and windows.
The lot is approximately 54,000 square feet, with approximately 230 feet of frontage on Harvard Street, 280 feet of frontage on Hall Street, and 170 feet on Prescott Street. The building was constructed in 1933.
“Although projects shall conform to zoning and other development regulations, the city is open to all reasonable proposals that are backed by a qualified team with an achievable program,” states the RFP. “Proposals will be evaluated for their likelihood of returning the property to its former status as the heart of the neighborhood.”
Proposals are due by 5:00 pm Wednesday, December 27, 2017.
