RFQ: Private firms needed to redevelop almost 1000 publicly-owned properties (Michigan)

On January 5, 2018, Highland Park, Michigan (population just under 12,000) issued a Request For Qualifications (RFQ), in their search for qualified private developers to redevelop nearly 1000 publicly-owned properties.

City leaders in this enclave of Detroit are working with the Michigan Land Bank and the Wayne County Land Bank in this massive revitalization effort.

Together, they are hoping to boost home ownership, revitalize Highland Park’s economy, and improve the city’s marketing efforts.

The RFQ expands of Highland Park’s Neighborhood Improvement Plan, which was created to help reverse local population loss.

The land banks own many properties within the areas of Highland Park that have been tagged for redevelopment.

Wayne County Land Bank’s recently-hired Executive Director Bali Kumar says that by pooling efforts to attract qualified companies they are “more likely to present attractive opportunities and streamlined options to potential developers.”
