Riverfront mound is crowning touch on Scottish town’s £5.2 million regeneration

Work is almost finished on the viewpoint mound, pictured above, near the railway station in Gourock, Inverclyde, Scotland.

Regeneration body Riverside Inverclyde (RI) is delivering the £5.2 million town centre revamp on behalf of Inverclyde Council.

A spokeswoman for RI said completion of the viewpoint has been delayed — by good weather.

She said: “What you can see on the top just now is soil. Final turfing of the top was held up because it was too warm, but we’re planning to complete it soon.

It’s hoped the viewpoint will become a focal point for people to gaze over the river, as they will be able to walk just over three metres up to the top.

She said: “There will be seating around it, and we hope it will be somewhere people will go to have their lunch, for example.
