Town plans $3 million beach restoration, but will climate change destroy it?

The Community Preservation Committee of Sandwich, Massachusetts, on November 2, 2015, unanimously approved a request for additional funding to be put toward a $3 million restoration project on Town Neck Beach.

Committee members expressed concern about putting so much money into one project, especially in the face of climate change and ramifications such as beach erosion.

Some members said the restoration project was just a Band-Aid on a wound and not a long-term solution.

Others pointed out that Town Neck Beach is an important barrier beach protecting the coastline from storms, and some action is better than none.
