Speaker Paul Ryan wants derelict GM factory cleaned, repurposed, & reused

Janesville, Wisconsin native Paul Ryan, the new Speaker of the House, recently championed the repurposing and reuse of an old General Motors factory, now that GM has made the decision not to reopen it.

Right now it’s a 4-million-square-foot dust collector.” Ryan said. “I was over there three weeks ago, and we have to get possession of the property — we meaning Janesville and Rock County have to get possession of the property so we can redevelop the property and bring some good-paying jobs to the area,” he said.

As a brownfield, he said it would have to be cleaned up before it could be redeveloped, possibly with the state’s assistance.
