Suffolk, Virginia hopes pop-up stores will help revitalize their downtown

Got a business? Downtown Suffolk, Virginia has got space. And it’s free – at least for one weekend.

Suffolk will jump on the pop-up band wagon when it debuts a new initiative called ReStored on Nov. 14 and 15, 2015.

The event aims to fill a handful of empty retail properties along Main and Washington Streets with independent businesses, said Kevin Hughes, the city’s director of Economic Development.

To do that, you have to think creatively,” he said.

The city wants to see new stores open in available real estate as part of a broader initiative for the continued restoration of Downtown Suffolk, he added.

ReStored is a collaborative effort between the city’s Department of Economic Development and Retail Alliance, a nonprofit trade association that serves and promotes local retailers.
