Thai rapper raises funds and engages government in massive reforestation

Wellknown Thai rapper and entertainer Joey Boy has earned widespread praise from his fans and from netizens in general when his images attending a meeting of a parliamentary panel discussing reforestation were posted in social media.

The rapper has vowed to help reforest about 500,000 rai (80,000 hectares) of denuded forests in Nan province of Thailand.

Most people originally thought his vow was just a publicity stunt, but his doubters were proven wrong. Joey Boy launched a campaign to mobilize funding from the public and also made his own contribution.

Massive maize cultivation, illegal logging, and lack of government enforcement are mostly to blame for the depletion of forests in Nan.
