Rural New Jersey town plans to revitalize by redeveloping America’s first outlet shopping center into a mixed-income housing complex

On December 5, 2021, Flemington, New Jersey’s Borough Council adopted an ordinance establishing the Liberty Village Redevelopment Plan.

Its goal is to revitalize the community by transform the borough’s their historic outlet mall—the first in the nation—into mixed-income housing units.

The plan consists of redeveloping the Liberty Village Redevelopment Area—an area comprising 10 lots on 23 acres—into mixed-income, multi-family residential and/or townhouse units for a variety of household sizes.
