University of New Orleans gets $225,000 grant to study coastal restoration

A grant awarded to the University of New Orleans will be used to continue studying changes to Louisiana’s coastline, the university said today.

The $225,000 grant from the U.S. Geological Survey will assist in the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority’s barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring Program, which provides long-term data on the state’s barrier islands, beaches and shorelines.

This project goes beyond other coastal monitoring programs in that it provides data on all of the state’s coastline and barrier islands, not just the areas where restoration projects are currently taking place.
