Up to $100,000 is available to municipalities & non-profits for green infrastructure projects that help restore Chesapeake Bay

The Chesapeake Bay Trust has issued an RFP for urban green infrastructure proposals via their Green Streets, Green Jobs, Green Towns (G3) Grant Program.

The Chesapeake Bay Green Streets, Green Jobs, Green Towns (G3) Grant Program funded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Region III (EPA), and the Chesapeake Bay Trust with support from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, was created to support design projects, financing strategies, and/or implementation of green street projects.

The goal of this grant program is to help communities develop and implement plans that reduce stormwater runoff, increase the number and amount of green spaces in urban areas, improve the health of local streams and the Chesapeake Bay, and enhance quality of life and community livability.

This collaborative effort supports implementation of the Chesapeake Bay Protection and Restoration Executive Order and serves as a key component of EPA’s Green Streets, Green Jobs, Green Towns (G3) Partnership. The G3 Partnership provides support for local, grassroots-level greening efforts to reduce stormwater runoff from towns and communities in urbanized watersheds.

This program supports design projects, financing strategies, and/or implementation of green street projects. This program also supports white papers on innovative ideas for green infrastructure and charrettes to plan and vision a green street project with developers, citizens, planners, and other key stakeholders. Grant funding can be applied anywhere in the Chesapeake Bay watershed portion of EPA Region 3 (excludes New York).

Local governments such as municipalities, non-profit organizations, neighborhood/community associations, and other nonprofit entities.

Up to $15,000 for conceptual plans, up to $30,000 for engineered designs, up to $100,000 for implementation projects, up to $50,000 for community greening projects, up to $20,000 for white papers. A match is encouraged but not required.

The Chesapeake Bay Trust’s grant applications are all submitted through an online system. If you have questions regarding the application process, please contact this program’s grant manager, Jeffrey Popp, at 410-974-2941 ext. 103.
