A broad range of trends and issues affecting the real estate industry, including climate change, new technologies, demographic changes, the shortage of attainable housing, and the evolution of urban neighborhoods, will be discussed at the Urban Land Institute’s 2019 Fall Meeting, set for September 18-21, 2019 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
The meeting is expected to draw more than 7,000 of the world’s leading real estate professionals, including commercial developers, finance executives, economic development specialists, architects, urban planners, property owners and managers, real estate consultants, and public officials.
The Fall Meeting will also feature an exciting and dynamic lineup of speakers, including:
- Holly Sullivan, director of worldwide economic development, Amazon (Amazon selected National Landing in the Washington metropolitan region as the site for its second headquarters facility);
- Eric Quick, chief executive officer of The Town Kitchen;
- Karen Washington, founder of Rise and Root Farm; and
- Nikki Haley, former Ambassador to the United Nations.
“These speakers reflect the dynamic programming we are planning for our attendees,” said Fall Meeting Host Committee Co-Chair Raymond Ritchey, senior executive vice president of Boston Properties. “We’re excited to feature thought provocateurs who will challenge commonly held notions and enhance the learning process that is so firmly embedded in ULI’s culture.”
One of the highlights of the meeting will be tours of innovative developments throughout the Washington metropolitan area. “Our region is a great example of how urban areas are evolving in response to new economic drivers and changes in consumer preferences regarding living and working environments,” said Host Committee Co-Chair Deborah Ratner Salzberg, chairman of Brookfield Properties. “The meeting will showcase some of the area’s most creative developments as examples of how the area is building for the future while underscoring its distinction as the nation’s capital.”
Wednesday, September 18, will feature tours of iconic buildings and new developments throughout region, including:
- National Museum of African American History;
- Kennedy Center;
- Watergate;
- National Building Museum;
- Bethesda Row; and
- Tyson’s.
The day will conclude with a welcome reception at The Wharf, a new, dynamic development on the Potomac River waterfront.
Saturday, September 21, will feature more tours, including:
- Glenstone Museum;
- Union Market and NoMa (the neighborhood north of Massachusetts Avenue);
- The D.C. waterfront; and
- Bike tours of downtown and from downtown to Bethesda, Maryland and back.
